John Barker is a Senior Pilot, Check Pilot and Mentor Pilot with the Port of Auckland. Joining the Port 30 years ago, he comes from a strong maritime background and is as Fellow of the Nautical Institute has presented at a number of International Pilotage Conferences on Passage Planning, MPX documentation development and Competency Based Training Systems. During this time, he developed the eMPX application, which is now used internationally.
He has been responsible for the introduction of technology solutions, PPU and Pilotage analytical tools at the Port. Recently John has initiated the POA “PPU Up-Cycling Programme” for Pacific Nations. This included the development of Port specific MPX documentation and the delivery of a PPU solution to 3 Pacific nations, with more to follow next year.
