John Clarke is a pilot in Dampier, Western Australia and during his career was an unrestricted pilot at three New Zealand ports. He is an experienced ASD tug master and check pilot. John is a Fellow of the Nautical Institute and has a special interest in pilot assessment and continuous improvement in pilotage practice. He has a Master of Business Administration degree and accident investigation training. He has authored a number of widely published articles on topics relating to pilotage human factors. Over the past decade John has formally assessed over 60 different pilots as they conducted ships in NZ and Australian ports giving him a solid understanding of how pilots put their classroom training into practice in the real world environment at their own ports.
